Full Review
Let's face it, the printed business card is a tired 300 year old relic of the business world. The printed business card is expensive, not at all eco-friendly and when you receive a printed business card, you have to transfer the information from that printed card to your contact management program.
And you need to always make sure to have plenty handy no matter when or where... always.
CardCloud is the modern approach to sharing contact information and a way to hopefully kill the paper-based business card with their digital business card app.
Getting started with CardCloud is a quick 3-step process: Account Creation, Edit Card (which is where you actually create your card), and then confirm your card and download the iPhone app. The whole process takes about 5 minutes and the interface has a clean, intuitive design.
Once you have an account created, you're taken to the dashboard which shows you any card sharing activity, gives you the ability to create additional business cards (which as an entrepreneur with lot's of projects/websites LOVE the idea of having multiple cards in one account), add additional services (which plays well with over 50 services including all the usual suspects like LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Foursquare, etc.) and finally, manage your contacts and account settings.
Let's look at functionality. Let's say you're working a trade show floor, meeting potential clients and ready to exchange your first CardCloud business card. All you do is start the E iPhone app (other smartphones use http://i.mynameise.com/ via browser) and tap ‘Share a Card' to simply share your card with the person your with. Your information is shared automatically phone-to-phone, and is stored in their contacts database via .vcf or vCard file.
Receiving cards is just as easy and when you receive a card, CardCloud can store the contact information in the iPhone Address Book with a simple tap. And, just like the old-fashioned "notes on the back of the card" CardCloud allows you to take notes on the 'back' of their business cards that you receive, tag, assign importance to a contact and geo-tag the location of your meeting.
The Bottom Line
I'm a huge fan of digital business cards. Digital business cards are quick to create, easy to update, economical and (most importantly) eco-friendly. But, as we discussed in previous reviews, digital business cards must do two things really well; effectively exchange information, and seamlessly sync with 3rd party apps. CardCloud does both awesomely. CardCloud is an easy-to-use and beautifully designed application.
Do not order another box of printed business cards, CardCloud is all you need.
